Or thane:I absolutely hate this, not Liam Knight as i'd be happy with him here, what i hate is that Burgess wasn't interested in the first place. He's knows him, has played with him, would have known he was available but wasn't interested, now he's playing really well Burgess is suddenly interested in poaching him. My confidence in Burgess has disintegrated very quickly, and he seems deluded and panicky with things he's doing. If we sign Him we should get rid of Musgrove and keep Vaughan. Byrne, Knight, Vaughan, Harrison, Yates, Philbin & Wood looks pretty solid, Crowther as back up possibly as well. Dan Russell i had a good feeling about, then saw him play and oh dear, not his fault but he's more championship level. We need 2 new good props minimum, and Either Play leyland or let him go. And just move on from Russell, and hopefully Lindop and Wrench both stay fit and keep developing. I like king, nothing fancy but is a workhorse centre and makes more yards and gets us on the front foot more than our props at times. And only costing 50k on the cap is a BIG plus, but the fact we haven't re-signed him already suggests he's on his way out. To be fair on Burgess didn't Knight only become available mid season when we had no quota spots left? Whether we should have filled that last spot with Russell is obviously the question we all know the answer to, its left our hands tied - maybe we would have been in a better position to bring Amone in if we had that flexibility of a free spot. Bringing in Russell certainly seems panic stations after losing Bateman & Nicholson, keeping our powder dry would have seemed the better option. King at £50k on the cap works well for his current contract, but I'm sure his next deal will be lower so the benefit is reduced, maybe having Walker / Ashton on £100k cap or Currie on £50k cap may work just as well. I'd keep King, but his salary has to be right and as you say Lindop should be considered first choice centre next year on his preferred side. Wrench I think at this stage can only be considered a back up given his injury issues of the past two years.

| Wires71:Fantastic Mr Cat:Alffi_7:
We can’t be a team of academy players, means we can have a good look at him for a potential move next year. Stone as far as I know is only on a deal to the end of this year?
The long term view of the club is academy produced players. This doesn’t change that.
the other problem is, people want academy players playing, until they dont. The wakey away game, you had people slagging jake thewlis off for having a bad game. The entire team was poor that day. Over a larger sample size i think he's filled in pretty well, he's not ashton, but for whats being asked of him, i can't fault him. He's almost a carbon copy of his brother (who people went after a few years ago after a couple of dodgy games) Wrench on sunday, he probably/definitely should have passed that ball, 99/100 the fb is expecting the pass, that comes off and sky are ing themselves silly about him having the confidence to do that sort of thing, as a youngster. In the grand scheme of things, where we are, howe we're playing he should have made the safe option of the pass, but again young player backing himself. People even had a pop at holroyd, who's been the model of consistency, he's limited in attack and arguably undersized, i've even seen people having a pop at irwin this weekend not being good enough/ready. our support base is arguably as problematic as the club itself. Fair points. Jake has done well I think filling in. As an understudy to Ashton he is fine. Wrench cannot really be classed as an academy player promotion now after making his debut 5 years ago(?) He needs to be putting down a marker to earn the starting centre shirt now. Holroyd is limited in attack and undersized at 13 stone currently. Surely there is no debate on that. But I'm looking forward to how he progresses, he has a massive heart. Ridiculous to criticise Irwin. There are some other players in the squad that I would like to know what is happening with their progression. Tupaea Bardsley-Rowe Green Thomas I am miffed about Whitehead being moved on due to "lack of opportunities" at 2nd row, and then we recruit a 2nd row. Yes Wrench should have passed - and did in an almost identical position vs Catalan a couple of weeks before, I think he saw the cover coming across from Cas and wasn't confident Sneyd would make the line. I think the communication can be improved on whats happening with recruitment and the academy etc. You hit on a good point in terms of us knowing how the academy prospects are developing, would be good to hear from Chambers every couple of months on topics such as Recruitment / Retention, Development and progression of academy players, Scholarship and PDP progress and Community Club engagement. I know they can't always tell us who they are chasing and who they are letting go, but to know that we are avoiding signing new backrowers despite an apparent lack of depth because we have a player in the academy who is really promising is good to hear as a fan - just getting some insight in the the strategy rather than the specifics. On Whitehead specifically it seems to me he hasn't impressed enough in training to get a sustained run in the first team, with younger players coming up behind him who are perhaps more promising, seems reasonable to release him. If the youth system continues to improve we'll likely see more of it.

Good player from what Ive seen so should be another improvement on the squad for the rest of the season ( and hopefully he performs well enough that we try to negotiate a release from the remainder of his contract with Paramatta )
He's on $700k a year. There's no way we can afford him. He'll be back in the NRL next year.

Unless he can’t get a deal next year, maybe Parra subsidise his contract next year and we take up his contract fully in 2027 when his demands are lower (if he can’t get a deal in the NRL he’ll have to lower his demands).

| Wow $700k, equates to £341k that's a big salary. He would have to be very special for that kind of money. Must be a salary cap issue sending him over here (not read the press) as he is reported to be on Parramattas rosta for 2026.
I do hope Holroyd gets a good run, he is a talent.
Personally I thought Irwin looked poor at Cas due to the players around him and he looked a bit bigger than the last time we saw him. Once next season rolls around he will be a good size and be able take some hits, or he could be like Gregory and/or Edwards who were masters at not getting whilst being brilliant.
