| Got on the score sheet for Leigh at the weekend. Seems to be going down quite well with the Leythers.

| I do wonder whether we've made the right decisions with Armstrong. It's clear that he has scoring power (he's demonstrated it in his brief first team career) and that's one of the best attributes you can pin to any player. Given Gardner and Meli's creaky form over the last two years I'm surprised we haven't given Tom more of a chance. I'm sure there's something about him we don't like the look of. Perhaps he's weak under the high ball. Perhaps he's slow on the turn. Or perhaps he just doesn't have the necessary level of professionalism. All such criticism would be understandable if it weren't for the fact that the same accusations have been leveled at Gardner and/or Meli throughout their careers.
It's impossible to coach talent. But there are many other facets of the game that can be and I suspect a strong leader might be able to turn Tom, at the very least, into a credible first team candidate who, if he did nothing else, would force the likes of Meli and Gardner (the latter of which has never really been put under pressure for his position) to look over the shoulders and buck up.

Correct, just as long as we don't send any young second rowers over there

Maybe we've just pimped him out to Leigh for the season until Ade's contract runs out and we could perhaps give him a run in our first team if he does well this season.

I always thought Tom showed good hands in receiving tricky kicks. He seemed solid in defence and finished well. He'd certainly be a cheaper alternative to Gardner and give us cover for the centre.
We'll see how his form contiues for Leigh.

Had he done that, he wouldn't be out on dual reg!

Why not?
Maybe the club feel that Wheeler, Foster and Lomax are better than him as centre/wing options, but him playing in the U 20's is no longer improving him. Dual reg is the perfect solution, he's playing at a better standard and we can recall him if he's ever needed.
